Eligibility Criteria
- Early-career artists; holders of Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University are not eligible
- Other Requirements:
- Demonstrated extraordinary promise in artistic practice and teaching
- Non-U.S. citizens are welcome to apply
- Fellowship cannot be used to fund work leading to an advanced degree
- Applicants may apply for the Princeton Arts Fellowship twice in a lifetime
- Past recipients of the Hodder Fellowship and individuals with a sustained and continuous relationship with Princeton University are not eligible
Application Process
- Curriculum vitae
- 750-word proposal including:
- Plans for developing work during the fellowship
- Potential contributions to Princeton’s arts community through teaching or production
- Approach to community building in artistic practice, teaching, and/or research
- Work samples (e.g., writing samples, images, video links) with a 150-word statement on their relevance to the proposal
- Contact information for three references (letters not required unless requested)

Scholarship Benefits
- Funding Coverage:
- Annual stipend of $92,000
- $5,000 per academic year for research expenses
- $2,000 per academic year for classroom expenses
- Duration of Funding:
- Two consecutive 10-month academic years (September 1 – July 1)
- Two consecutive 10-month academic years (September 1 – July 1)
- Extra Benefits:
- Teaching one course each semester or undertaking an artistic assignment (e.g., directing a play, choreographing a dance)
- Access to shared office and studio spaces on campus
- Engagement with Princeton’s vibrant arts community
