Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must have applied for and been accepted into the MScR in Music program at the University of Edinburgh, commencing in September 2025.
  • Candidates should possess, or expect to obtain, the equivalent of a UK first-class or 2:1 Honours degree at the undergraduate level.
  • Both UK and international applicants are eligible.
  • Part-time study options are available; however, part-time study is not available for overseas applicants.

Application Process

  • Submit an application for the MScR in Music program at the University of Edinburgh.
  • After applying, access the online scholarship application form located in EUCLID via MyEd, the university's web-based information portal: MyEd.
  • Log in using your University User Name and password.

 

  • Documents Required:
    • A research proposal that centers on working with the University's Musical Instrument Collection.
    • The proposal should outline the research approach and potential outputs, such as a dissertation, performance portfolio, or scientific report.
    • Demonstration of readiness to engage with the postgraduate community and contribute to related activities.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Funding Coverage:
    • The scholarship covers the full tuition fee at either the UK or overseas rate.
    • Any remaining funds after tuition will be awarded as a stipend towards living costs, aligned with the UKRI rate (currently £19,237 for full-time students in 2024/2025, pro-rata for part-time).
       
  • Duration of Funding:
    • One academic year for full-time study.
    • Pro-rata equivalent over two years for part-time study.
       
  • Extra Benefits:
    • Scholarship recipients are expected to actively participate in the postgraduate community at the Edinburgh College of Art.
    • Engagement opportunities include presenting research at seminars, contributing to concerts, and participating in public and student-led events.
    • Award holders will also engage with the activities of the Friends of St Cecilia’s Hall, offering a presentation of their research and/or contributing to the newsletter, 'Soundboard'.
