Eligibility Criteria

  • MFA in Art Practice at Stanford University
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA, BFA, or BS) from an accredited institution; applicants should have a strong background in art practice, either through formal education or at least three years of independent studio practice.
  • Non-native English speakers must demonstrate proficiency (e.g., TOEFL).
  • Admission to the MFA program; good academic standing for continued support.​

Application Process

  • Complete the electronic application via Stanford's Graduate Admissions page.
  • $125 (fee waivers available for eligible applicants).
  • Upload required documents, including transcripts and letters of recommendation.
  • GRE scores are optional; TOEFL required for non-native English speakers.

    • Portfolio of work (e.g., images of artwork)

    • Access to woodworking and machine shops, photo and digital labs, and the Product Realization Lab in the School of Mechanical Engineering.
    • Opportunity for a six-month Paris studio residency post-graduation, shared across departments.
    • Eligibility for competitive awards such as the Jack and Gertrude Murphy Award ($40,000) and Cadogan Scholarships ($6,500).​
