Eligibility Criteria

  • Chilean citizenship or permanent residency in Chile.
  • Possession of a Licenciado degree (a six-year Chilean degree).
  • Academic excellence, defined as an average grade higher than 5 out of 7 in the Chilean grading system or ranking within the top 30% of the degree course.

Application Process

Prospective applicants should follow these steps:

  • Contact the prospective supervisor or relevant department at Imperial College London with details of the proposed research project. Pre-application contact is essential.
  • Email scholarships@imperial.ac.uk indicating the intention to apply for an ANID scholarship.
  • Submit a PhD application to Imperial College London, adhering to standard procedures, including meeting English language requirements.
  • Upon receiving a formal offer (conditional or unconditional) from Imperial, apply to ANID for the scholarship. The application link is PhD Scholarships Chile 2024-ANID. Deadlines typically fall in early April each year.
  • Selection outcomes are usually communicated between June and August.
     
  • Documents Required:
    • Completed application forms for both Imperial College London and ANID.
    • Academic transcripts and certificates.
    • Proof of Chilean citizenship or permanent residency.
    • Evidence of academic excellence (e.g., grading certificates).
    • English language proficiency test results (e.g., IELTS or TOEFL).
    • Research proposal.
    • Letters of recommendation.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Funding Coverage:
    • Full stipend for the duration of the PhD, aligned with standard ANID rates.
    • One-way economy class airfare from the scholar's residence in Chile to London for the scholar, spouse, and children (if applicable), and return tickets upon completion.
    • Monthly allowances for the spouse and each child under 18 years old.
    • One-time allowances to cover settlement and relocation expenses.
    • Annual allowances for books/materials and health insurance.
    • Extension of the monthly stipend for up to four months for pregnancy and maternity leave (applicable to female scholars).
    • Benefits related to pre-sessional English courses, if required.
       
  • Duration of Funding:
    • Covers the entire duration of the PhD program.
