Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Competitive academic standing (typically top 5–10% or GPA 3.6+)
  • TOEFL: Minimum 100 (iBT) or 600 (PBT) for non-native English speakers
  • Writing sample (up to 20 pages)
  • No GRE required
  • Demonstrated historical research interest aligning with the department’s fields

Application Process

  • Application through Columbia University’s GSAS portal during the designated application cycle (not rolling admissions)

    • Academic transcripts
    • Statement of academic purpose
    • Three letters of recommendation
    • TOEFL scores (if applicable)
