Eligibility Criteria
- Hold nationality in a country outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Suriname
- Meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands
- Have applied for admission to a participating master's programme at Maastricht University for the 2025-2026 academic year
- Meet the specific admission requirements of the UM master's programme to which you have applied
- Have never participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands
- Have obtained excellent results during your prior education programmes, as demonstrated by your latest grade transcript
Application Process
- Register for a master's programme at Maastricht University
- After submitting your application, you will receive a student ID number from UM. Use this ID to complete and submit the Scholarship Application Form
- Note: You can apply for the master's programme and the scholarship simultaneously. However, you must be conditionally approved for admission to the master's programme to be awarded the scholarship.
- Documents Required:
- Curriculum Vitae (maximum two A4 pages)
- Letter of motivation (using the provided template)
- Proof of academic excellence (e.g., university transcript stating GPA or class ranking, or a letter from the institution's Head of Department or Registrar)
- Personal statement of financial needs
- Reference letter (following the scholarship reference letter guidelines)
Scholarship Benefits
- Funding Coverage:
- Living expenses: €15,925 per academic year (approximately €1,225 per month)
- Health & liability insurance: At cost, arranged and paid by UM
- Visa application costs: At cost, arranged and paid by UM
- Tuition fees: At cost per academic year, arranged and paid by UM
- Pre-Academic Training costs: At cost, arranged and paid by UM
- International Student Ambassador Programme (ISAP): At cost for the first block only, arranged and paid by UM
- Duration of Funding:
- 13 months for a one-year master's programme; 25 months for a two-year master's programme
- 13 months for a one-year master's programme; 25 months for a two-year master's programme
- Extra Benefits:
- Mandatory accommodation provided by UM (note: not suitable for partners/spouses and/or children)
- Participation in the UM Pre-Academic Training, a two-week mandatory component taking place in the first week of August 2025
Additional Details
- Selection Procedure:
- The UM International Services Desk checks if all applications are complete after the application deadline
- The UM Scholarship Office forwards applications to the relevant faculty's admission office
- The admission office, in cooperation with programme coordinators, ranks applications based on UM scholarship selection criteria and proposes top candidates to the Scholarship Selection Committee
- The Scholarship Selection Committee invites top applicants for an online interview, after which a decision is made
- Selected candidates must sign and return the award letter to the UM International Services Desk to accept the scholarship
