Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must hold a master's degree in social work or a related discipline.
  • A minimum A– (80%) average in previous graduate studies is typically required.
  • Demonstrated research potential and a strong academic record.

Application Process

  • Prospective students must apply through the University of Toronto's School of Graduate Studies online portal.

 

  • Documents Required:
    • Completed online application form.
    • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
    • Statement of purpose outlining research interests and career goals.
    • Three letters of recommendation.
    • A sample of academic writing.
    • Proof of English language proficiency (if applicable).

Scholarship Benefits

  • Funding Coverage:
    • The FIFSW provides a minimum funding commitment of $19,600 CAD for full-time Ph.D. students.
    • This funding is intended to cover tuition and fees, with the remainder provided as a stipend.
       
  • Duration of Funding:
    • Guaranteed for up to five years, contingent upon full-time enrollment, satisfactory academic progress, and timely completion of program requirements.
       
  • Extra Benefits:
    • Opportunities for professional development through teaching assistantships and research positions.
    • Access to additional scholarships and awards, such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), a merit-based award for graduate students in Ontario.
