Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent by the time of enrollment.
  • Demonstrated academic excellence and research potential.
  • Commitment to full-time study and research.
  • Satisfactory progress in the PhD program, including completion of all program requirements.​

Application Process

  • Submit applications through the PhD Program in Computational Neuroscience admissions website.
     
  • Documents Required:
    • Completed application form.
    • Statement of purpose.
    • Writing sample.
    • Letters of recommendation.
    • Transcripts.
    • GRE scores (if required).
    • TOEFL or IELTS scores (for non-native English speakers).

Scholarship Benefits

  • Funding Coverage:
    • Full tuition coverage.
    • Annual stipend maintained at a level affording a reasonable local standard of living, competitive with awards offered at comparable institutions, and periodically adjusted in response to cost-of-living increases.
    • Fully paid individual annual premiums for UChicago's student health insurance (U-SHIP).
    • Graduate student services fee.
       
  • Duration of Funding
    • Guaranteed through the student's first five years of study, conditional on satisfactory degree progress, and extended to completion of the degree in all but the most unusual of circumstances.
       
  • Extra Benefits:
    • Opportunities for supplemental funding from individual merit awards, such as NSF Graduate Research Fellowships, NIH Individual National Research Service Awards, or Department of Defense awards.
    • Support during the application process for these individual merit awards
