Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to all admitted undergraduate students, regardless of nationality or citizenship.
  • Financial aid is awarded based solely on demonstrated financial need; merit-based scholarships are not offered.
  • Families with annual incomes up to $200,000 may qualify for varying levels of aid, with those earning less than $100,000 typically receiving full coverage of tuition and additional expenses. 

Application Process

  • Complete the CSS Profile to assess financial need.
  • U.S. citizens and permanent residents must also submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Provide required documents through the Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC), including tax returns and other financial statements.
  • International students may need to submit additional forms, such as the International Student Financial Aid Application.
  • Deadlines vary; applicants should consult the Harvard College financial aid website for specific dates.​

Scholarship Benefits

  • Funding Coverage:
    • Full tuition coverage for families earning up to $200,000 annually.
    • Additional coverage for room, board, and other expenses for families with lower incomes.
    • Inclusion of scholarship funds, student employment opportunities, and consideration of outside awards. 
  • Duration of Funding:
    •  Up to 8 semesters (4 years) of undergraduate study, contingent upon continued demonstrated need and satisfactory academic progress.​
  • Extra Benefits:
    • Access to the Federal Work-Study Program for eligible students, providing part-time employment opportunities.
    • Optional low-interest loans available for families who choose to borrow.

Additional Details

  • Harvard's financial aid program is need-blind for all applicants, including international students, ensuring that admission decisions are made without regard to financial circumstances.
  • Students receiving outside scholarships must report them to the Financial Aid Office; these awards may reduce the student term-time work expectation or loan component, but not the Harvard Scholarship amount.
  • Emergency funding is available for unforeseen expenses, such as medical or dental emergencies, through the Beneficiary Aid Program.
