Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Strong academic record and research interests aligned with East Asian Studies.
  • GRE scores are optional.
  • Non-native English speakers must provide TOEFL, IELTS, or DET scores.
  • Sample of written work, 25 pages maximum.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean; additional language proficiency may be required based on research interests.​

Application Process

  • Familiarize yourself with the Ph.D. program's structure and faculty research areas.
  • Gather transcripts, language proficiency scores, statement of purpose, and writing sample.
  • Submit the application through Princeton's Graduate School portal.
  • Pay the non-refundable application fee or request a fee waiver if eligible.

    • Academic transcripts
    • TOEFL/IELTS/DET scores (for non-native English speakers)
    • Statement of academic purpose
    • Sample of written work​
