Breaking the guardrails of LLMs: vulnerable and malicious code generation Institute of Software Security, TUHH
Research Project: Breaking the Guardrails – Analyzing LLM Vulnerabilities
Large Language Models (LLMs) are designed with security guardrails to prevent the generation of malicious or harmful content. However, this research critically examined the effectiveness of these guardrails by testing vulnerabilities in 15 widely used LLMs. By analyzing jailbreaking techniques, adversarial prompting, and malicious code generation, the study uncovers how susceptible these models are to exploitation.

Key Contributions:
Evaluated 15 different LLMs for security weaknesses.
Identified bypass methods that lead to unsafe or unintended outputs.
Provided insights into the risks of deploying LLMs in real-world applications.
This research has deepened my interest in AI Ethics and Security, and I am now exploring the strategic impact of Enterprise GPTs on businesses. Working towards further investigations in this evolving domain.

Research Assistant

I initiated the research project "Breaking the Guardrails – Analyzing LLM Vulnerabilities," which critically examined the security mechanisms of 15 widely used Large Language Models (LLMs). While LLMs are designed with safeguards to prevent the generation of malicious or harmful content, our study evaluated their effectiveness by testing jailbreaking techniques, adversarial prompting, and malicious code generation. The findings highlighted key vulnerabilities and exposed potential risks associated with these models.

Building on this work, we are now expanding our research focus to AI Ethics and collaborating with another department at TUHH. Our current investigation explores how safety guardrails are designed in Enterprise GPTs and how they should be built to ensure responsible and secure AI deployment.
