Rice Straw as a Source of Cellulose Based Superabsorbent Polymer - a Comprehensive StudyChalmers University
This project involved studying the processing and production of Superabsorbent Polymers (SAP) from rice straw as a raw material alongside their applicability and environmental impact as an alternative to current SAP production methods. The production of hydrogels for use in liquid absorption wearables, and notably baby diapers, was focused on due to their environmental impact both during production as well as in disposal.

This project involved extracting β,β-Dimethylacrylshikonin (BDMS) which is said to have anti-diabetic properties from a plant called Onosma echioides using Response Surface Methodology. Adsorption and desorption processes were used for the isolation of the compound.
